Color Blocking is back and stronger than ever! Originally introduced in the 1960’s and later 1980’s, this trend has once again been revisited by many designers in the Spring 2012 collections. Color blocking is a technique where blocks of various fabrics are sewn together to create products consisting of several different solid colors.  Oscars Red Carpet was lit up by Missi Pyle (a co-star in the best picture nominee “The Artist”) wearing a stunning turquoise dress that could set a new eco-friendly trend. Eco-fashion can no longer be separated from the tech that is making it possible: the featured designers used zero-waste seamless knitting technology and nonpolluting Air Dye technology among numerous others. Fabrics shown on the runway included Alpaca, organic cotton, silk, linen and hemp, recycled leather and bamboo.  The resulting aesthetic ranged from urban chic to safari punk, creating...

I decided to test whether this theory holds up for green shopping and began an online search for stores carrying eco-conscious fashion located in NY. Eager to go forth and conquer, I decided to visit the 4 shops on the list located in the Lower East Side which specialize in eco-fashion. Sadly, 2 out of 4 were no longer located at the listed addresses. However, the remaining 2 turned out to be a hit. Kaight Source: refinery29.com via Yana on...

Jeans get an eco-facelift! Facts: One pair of jeans requires almost 920 gallons of water, 400 mega joules of energy and expels 32 kilograms of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to running a garden hose for 106 minutes, driving 78 miles and powering a computer for 556 hours. 450 million pairs of jeans are sold in USA alone each year. The majority have been colored with toxic dyes, acid bathed, sandblasted and chemically doused to create the aged, worn in look, while destroying the plant and animal life surrounding the factory. Eco- Jeans:                   Nine in the Morning jeans...
